A short Monsters vs. Aliens fan fic.

Cut for possible spoilers.

Susan regained consciousness and found herself in a small room with walls made of some kind of white ceramic.

Getting to her feet she immediately realized that she wasn't wearing what she last remembered wearing. Instead she was wearing a dress. A strapless, backless, little black dress. It was a bit (perhaps more than a bit) more daring than she would have selected on her own, but it was still a quite nice dress. Especially since nice dresses were something she thought she'd left behind in her previous life, back when she thought her destiny contained no greater heights than being a supportive housewife. It almost brought a tear to her eye. She was even wearing a pair of matching pumps.

A panel opened about thirty feet off the floor and a dark-haired man in a nice suit came in, standing on a flying disc.

"Sorry about this."

Susan blinked. "Sorry about this?"

The man looked away for a moment. "Yeah, I know it must be a bit alarming to wake up in a strange place, in new clothing, and be confronted by a man flying in front of you."

"You get used to it."

This time the man blinked. "You get used to it?"

Susan nodded slightly. "Are you planning to take over the world?"

The man adjusted a control on his flying disc and flew upwards to Susan's eye level. "No, I have too much paperwork to deal with as it is."

"Okay, are you planning to keep me here for the rest of my life and never let me go?"

The man scratched the side of his head and looked away for a moment before responding. "I don't want to seem like I'm afraid of commitment, but isn't our first date a little early to talk about living together?"

"Did you say date?"

The man nodded. "I'm sorry, I've messed this all up. I had this whole spiel planned where I introduce myself and suavely invite you on a date, but when I saw you in person I panicked and zapped you instead."

Susan gave him a half smile. "I can be intimidating in person."

The man nodded again and blushed slightly. "You're very beautiful."

"You think I'm beautiful?"

"Of course."

"No one's told me I'm beautiful since before..." Susan trailed off.

"Well you are. Very. Beautiful that is." The man seemed to pause as if remembering something. "Oh! I'm sorry. I'm Merlan Lankanotvitch. I'm sort of a mad scientist."

"Sort of a mad scientist?"

"Well, I can't do the laugh. I suppose I'm more of a slightly peeved scientist. I tried working with a vocal coach..."

Susan cut him off. "It's nice to meet you Merlan. Now what's this about a date?"

"Of course." Merlan pressed a button and a massive panel opened, revealing an a mostly flat area of wilderness, with the sun setting on the horizon. There was a fifty foot tall chair at a thirty foot tall table, covered by a red and white checkered cloth, with a proportionately sized plate of steaming spaghetti carbonera, forks and knives.

Susan paused for a moment. "Wow."

"This didn't start quite the way I'd hoped it would, but it would be a great honor if you would join me for dinner."

Susan looked out at the sunset and then turned back to Merlan with a broad smile. "I'd love to."
